Philippians 4:8 - "Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."
If we were able to do just what this verse tells us to do today, what do you think your day would be like?
The ability to just think on good things is really not that easy. If you decide you will not say anything negative about anyone today, you will be tested! That person in the office that you really struggle with will hit you with criticism and you will want to make them pay. Someone else will come in with the ugliest outfit on ( you know what I'm talking about). Not to mention your boss!! ( I don't need to say any more do I?) You may be asking, "well how do we do it then?" How do I get through a day without gossipping or being negative or holding my tongues although I know they need to hear what I've got to say?
Paul answers that question a few verses before this one we just read. He gives us a few pointers on what to do. First, pray about everything. Tell God all about it. Tell Him what you need or what you think someone else needs. Second, thank Him for what He has already done. When we do this we will begin to experience God's peace. Then His peace will guard our hearts and minds. If He's guarding our hearts and minds, I think it will be easier to think on good things. So when you think you've just got to tell someone what you think, take it to Jesus first and let Him direct you!
